RFID deployment projections
From Computing: "Use of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology is still in its infancy, but adoption rates are growing, says a new survey. Researcher IDC found 12.4 per cent of European firms in the manufacturing, retail, wholesale, and logistics sectors piloted or planned to pilot an RFID project in 2005, and 5.1 per cent implemented RFID or intend to. RFID applications and servers were key investment areas, with return on investment concerns as the biggest barrier to adoption."
From Electronic News: "With major companies planning to increase the deployment and integration of radio frequency identification (RFID) systems in retail stores and warehouses in the years ahead, the market for RFID-related consulting, implementation and managed services is expected to grow by 47 percent this year alone, to reach $2 billion by 2008, according to the latest research from IDC... RFID is regarded as a disruptive technology holding significant opportunity for services organizations to help transform the supply chain for manufacturers, third-party logistics firms, retail establishments and consumers."
